Today I’ve released my newest single El Largo Adios.
El Largo Adios is a mariachi band/spaghetti western inspired acoustic guitar piece. One of the the key elements I wanted to bring to this a single was a sense of space and movement.
For many fans this may be seems as a huge departure from the recently released rocky single “Blues ‘n Greens” , but for me its an extension of my own musical thinking and the elements that have influenced me as a composer, engineer and player.
One of the most striking musical memories I have is watching Spaghetti Westerns as a child with my father, and being total mesmerised by the scores of Ennio Morricone.
There were so many cool guitar bits in many of these scores, but the real sweet spots are the space, drama, movement, and the emotion of these pieces which are still mind blow today.
If you listen to the sound tracks of “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” and “For Few Dollars More” you can hear subtle harmonic distortion in the music as it was recorded tape. So part of my recording process was to insure that there was a bit of analogue dirt in the recording to get underneath your finger nails.
Check out some of Nick J Harvey’s electric guitar tones.
